Science FCAT

The science FCAT tests measures how proficient students are in science according to the Sunshine State Standards. The science portion is given annually to 11th grade students and is important for our school grade, our perceived level of success with the subject matter as a school, a county and collectively state wide.

The earth science course will cover a great deal of the essential standards and students mastery of them will expected to be demonstrated on chapter and unit tests. We cover all of what's listed in the Earth & Space Science body of knowledge, as well as, a great deal of physical science, some in the life sciences and begin to develop the concepts illustrated in the nature of science.

We will be taking four standardized tests this year to help evaluate student's preparedness for the Science FCAT and their level of progress throughout the year. The first is a pretest to establish baseline data and it will not be part of the students grades. The other three will counted as tests and they will be given quarterly.

Our FCAT Resources:

  • Sunshine State Standards for Science: The benchmarks established by the State of Florida for science education.
  • FCAT Glossary: A list of terms, as provided by Pinellas County, and their definitions that students will be expected to understand and apply on the Science FCAT Test.
  • FCAT Focus: The weekly lessons, as presented in class, to assist students in the preparation for the Science FCAT.
  • FCAT Explorer: The state website developed to assist students in preparing for the FCAT.

There are no physicists in the hottest parts of hell, because the existence of a 'hottest part' implies a temperature difference, and any marginally competent physicist would immediately use this to run a heat engine and make some other part of hell comfortably cool.  This is obviously impossible.
